A 757 Sober Ride code worth up to $15 off a Lyft ride home posts at 7 p.m. Friday and again Saturday for Halloween. Codes run to 3 a.m. and are limited.

Anyone heading out in Virginia Beach for Halloween can get up to $15 off a Lyft ride home on Friday night and again on Saturday night.

The discount comes from 757 Sober Ride, a program run by the nonprofit Drive Safe Hampton Roads with Lyft. The group publishes each code on its 757 Sober Ride page at 7 p.m. on the night it works. Quantities are limited.

When the codes work

Night Code posts Code works
Friday, Oct. 30 7 p.m. Friday 7 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday
Saturday, Oct. 31 (Halloween) 7 p.m. Saturday 7 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1

Each night has its own code. A code from Friday will not work on Saturday. The times above are from the Drive Safe Hampton Roads program page.

The rules

Drive Safe Hampton Roads set these conditions:

  • Up to $15 off one Lyft ride home. You pay anything over $15.
  • You must be 21 or older.
  • The ride must start or end in Lyft’s Southside or Peninsula Hampton Roads coverage area. Virginia Beach is on the Southside.
  • New and existing Lyft users can use it while supplies last.
  • The discount does not cover cancellation fees, damage charges or taxes. It has no cash value.

How to use the code

  1. Wait until you are ready to leave. The group said not to put the code into the app before then.
  2. Open the Lyft app and go to the Payment tab.
  3. Choose “Add Lyft Pass” and enter the code.

Once a code is claimed in the app, that ride comes off the total available. No one else can use it.

Who pays for it

The program page said financial support comes from Huffman & Huffman Brothers-in-Law and the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. Lyft provides the rides.

“It is critical that anyone heading out to a bar or party plan for a sober driver to see them home safely,” Bob Clinebell, president of Drive Safe Hampton Roads, said on the program page.

The program also runs for the Super Bowl in February, St. Patrick’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving Eve and New Year’s Eve.

What it means for you

If you plan to drink at a party, a bar or an event on Friday or Saturday night, check the 757 Sober Ride page after 7 p.m. for that night’s code. Codes run out, so a designated sober driver or a taxi is the backup.
