Virginia Beach City Public Schools’ spring break is Monday, March 29, through Friday, April 2, 2027, the week after Easter (Sunday, March 28). Students return Monday, April 5, and are off again Friday, April 9, a staff day. Families staying home have a cherry blossom festival, a full library calendar, seven indoor city pools and beaches where dogs are still allowed.

Things to do
Cherry Blossom Festival, Red Wing Park. Parks and Recreation and Virginia Beach’s sister city, Miyazaki, Japan, hold a week of Japanese music, art and culture among the blooming trees at Red Wing Park, 1398 General Booth Blvd. In 2026 it ran March 27 to April 3, with free admission and free weekend parking on the grass field from 10 a.m. The city warns of traffic delays near the park, closes the Japanese Garden lot and the basketball courts during the festival, and suggests bringing a chair. The library. Virginia Beach Public Library programs are free, and it schedules extra children’s and teen events in the spring break weeks: in 2024 it had more than 85 programs for children and teens in the first week of April alone, the city said, from storytimes to LEGO, sewing and STEM. The library also lends board games, telescopes, robots and outdoor games through its “Library of Things.” Search the library calendar for the week of March 29.
Indoor pools. All seven city recreation centers (Bayside, Bow Creek, Great Neck, Kempsville, Princess Anne, Seatack and Williams Farm) have an indoor pool open year-round with a membership or day pass; Bow Creek and Williams Farm have slides. Check each center’s pool calendar for open swim. Children 8 and under must be in the water with someone 16 or older.
Virginia Aquarium spring break camps. The Aquarium, 717 General Booth Blvd., runs day camps for ages 4 to 9 over its spring break weeks, half days (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) or full days (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.), on reptiles, ocean science and animal habitats. In 2026 they ran April 6-10 and sold out; members get early registration, the Aquarium says. Call 757-385-0278.
Mount Trashmore Park, 310 Edwin Drive, has the Kids Cove playground, a skate park and paths around two lakes, and it is free. Earth Week with Parks and Recreation followed the break in 2026, April 18-25.

The beach in spring
Between Labor Day and Memorial Day, dogs may be on the public beaches and the Boardwalk at any time; they must be leashed on the Boardwalk, the city says. The Little Island Fishing Pier in Sandbridge closes April 16-30 each year for maintenance and charges pier fees from May through October.

City parks are open daily. Parks and Recreation closes its offices, recreation centers and indoor facilities on Easter Sunday (it did on April 5, 2026), while parks stay open sunrise to sunset.
